
According to the 2025 Global Innovation Index announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Uzbekistan ranked 79th among 139 countries. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This result indicates a significant increase in the country's scientific research and innovation potential and confirms development trends. The Global Innovation Index is published annually in September and is prepared based on nearly 80 indicators across two main subindexes and seven categories.
These indicators are important criteria for assessing countries' innovation capabilities, knowledge and technology development, as well as the quality of the business environment and governance. Uzbekistan first entered this index in 2015, ranking 122nd among 141 countries.
In recent years, the country's innovation potential has improved significantly, with Uzbekistan ranking 83rd among 132 countries in 2024. In the 2025 report, Uzbekistan ranked 69th in the “Innovation input” (investment and resources) subindex and 92nd in the “Innovation output” (effectiveness and efficiency) subindex.
Out of the 78 evaluated indicators, positive growth was observed in 36, while 7 remained unchanged. By categories, Uzbekistan achieved the following improvements: 12 places in “Human capital and research,” 1 place in “Infrastructure,” 4 places in “Market development,” and 10 places in “Knowledge and technology outputs.”
At the same time, a decline was observed in “Business sophistication” by 4 places and in “Creative outputs” by 1 place, while “Quality of institutions” remained unchanged. In terms of income level, Uzbekistan ranked 7th among 37 lower-middle-income countries, rising from 10th place in 2024.
In the Central and South Asia region, it ranked 3rd after India and Iran (4th place in 2024). These data were taken from the Global Innovation Index report provided by WIPO.
