Strict control over the procedure for holding weddings and other family ceremonies will be introduced in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
From now on, no more than 200 guests can attend family events, and no more than 250 guests can attend osh (traditional feast) ceremonies. This norm applies equally to everyone, and law enforcement agencies will continuously monitor its compliance.
The years 2026–2030 have been declared the “Period of Urgent Food Security,” during which the “Rational Consumption” program will be implemented. This initiative aims to curb excessive wastefulness, increase thriftiness in household management, and reduce expenses at celebrations.
In this regard, detailed procedures were established in decree No. 589 adopted on September 16, 2025. According to the decree, weddings, celebrations, and other family events will be held in strict accordance with the joint decision requirements adopted in 2019.
Specifically, it is clearly defined that up to 200 people may participate in family events, and up to 250 people in osh ceremonies. Double weddings and banquets are also not allowed to have more than 250 guests.
Additionally, certain customs and show events that are alien to our national values and lead to excessive extravagance will be strictly limited. For example, ceremonies such as “kuyov navkari,” “chorlar,” “ota ko‘rdi,” “sep yoydi,” “kuda chaqirdi,” as well as additional traditions in mourning events like “yetti,” “qirq,” and “yil oshi” will be abolished.
These measures serve to preserve the essence and meaning of celebrations, eliminate excessive luxury, and make expenses purposeful. Under the program, each event will be organized on a measured and normative basis.
By limiting the number of guests and reasonably determining the quantity of food, services will be planned economically. As a result, funds will be saved, social responsibility will increase, waste will decrease, and the financial burden on families will be eased.
In the President’s decree of April 2025, the task was set to develop mechanisms to further improve these regulations. In August, a draft joint resolution of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis was prepared.
It also introduced new rules aimed at fostering a culture of thrift and rational consumption among young people. Once these documents are implemented, the issues of normativity, consistency in expenses, and moral education at celebrations will be further strengthened (source: zamin.uz).
