The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan has officially announced the temporary suspension of gasoline exports to Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made to increase fuel reserves in the country and ensure stability in the international market. It was noted that in the spring of 2025, the delivery of surplus AI-92 gasoline to Uzbekistan significantly improved fuel reserves.
According to the ministry, gasoline was sent to Uzbekistan due to the lack of additional storage space. Nevertheless, this measure helped maintain stable fuel reserves in the country.
AI-92 gasoline reserves increased by 70 percent, and diesel fuel reserves rose by 78 percent. Kazakhstan banned the export of gasoline and diesel fuel abroad for six months starting from May 19, 2025.
This restriction is related to the repair of oil refineries and the registration of new oil product processing to accumulate strategic reserves. Additionally, from January 1, 2025, the export of gasoline and diesel fuel outside the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union will be prohibited.
This step aims to reduce shortages of fuel and lubricants in the country and limit re-export operations. Uzbekistan continues to actively purchase gasoline from Kazakhstan, especially when supplies from Russia decrease.
The "Uzbekneftgaz" company plans to sell only high-octane AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline starting from 2026. This is part of a strategy aimed at stabilizing the domestic market and targeting external markets.
The economic and social consequences of Kazakhstan's measures to restrict gasoline exports may arise. These decisions serve not only to balance fuel supply but also to regulate export and import processes.
At the same time, new opportunities arise for neighboring countries, particularly Uzbekistan. In conclusion, Kazakhstan's decisions to restrict gasoline exports are an important step aimed at ensuring environmental and economic stability, optimal management of fuel reserves, and maintaining regional equity.
