For the first time in the history of the republic, an underground household waste collection and storage complex has been launched in the city of Samarkand. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to official information from the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development, the complex is located in the “Obod Maskan” neighborhood of the Qorasuv district of the city and currently consists of two and a half special underground waste storage containers.
The main purpose of these devices is to prevent waste from scattering around, the spread of unpleasant odors on hot days, and the deterioration of sanitary conditions. This is of great importance in creating a clean and comfortable living environment for the local population.
The new system is installed at a depth of two meters, with a total of four special containers—two in each area. Each container has a capacity of three cubic meters or 550 liters and serves a population of between 1,000 and 1,500 people.
Officials emphasize that five more such complexes are planned to be built in the area in the future. The agency announced that such projects will be gradually implemented not only in Samarkand but throughout the entire republic.
This will be a significant step towards reducing environmental problems related to waste, bringing urban infrastructure closer to modern standards, and improving the quality of life for residents. At the same time, since July of this year, construction has begun on a large plant in Samarkand that will produce electricity from waste.
The project is valued at 150 million dollars and is designed to process 1,500 tons of waste per day. The plant will generate 240 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
According to ecologists and experts, such modern complexes and recycling technologies serve to create a healthy and comfortable environment not only for city residents but also for tourists visiting the country. Source: zamin.uz
