Uzbekistan has put forward strategic proposals to strengthen practical cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was reported by UPL.uz. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev paid special attention to the economic stabilization of Afghanistan at the CIS Heads of State Summit held in Dushanbe.
At the summit, he proposed jointly implementing large investment and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan. According to the President, Uzbekistan is firmly committed to ensuring long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan.
This initiative is an important part of Tashkent’s comprehensive strategy to involve Afghanistan in regional economic processes. Uzbekistan is actively participating in projects such as the "Surkhan – Puli-Khumri" power transmission line and the Trans-Afghanistan railway.
These projects will not only help restore Afghanistan’s economy but also provide the entire region with new transport corridors. The railway project envisages construction of tracks with two different gauges: 1520 mm from the Uzbekistan border to Pakistan, and 1676 mm within Pakistan’s territory.
This requires the construction of special terminals. The President also emphasized that despite the diminishing role of international institutions, the CIS continues to maintain stability.
Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with CIS countries grew by 11 percent last year. To strengthen trade and economic ties, a proposal was made within the CIS Economic Council to create a mechanism that responds quickly to changes in external markets.
This will facilitate the easy entry of agricultural products and other goods into CIS markets. A proposal was also made to establish unified logistics centers to address problems in the transport sector.
The President noted the importance of eliminating bottlenecks in existing sectors. In the field of education, a new agreement ensuring mutual recognition of diplomas and qualifications among CIS countries was proposed.
This should be implemented taking into account the development of the labor market. Additionally, initiatives were put forward to create a Venture platform within the CIS, prepare an innovative development program in the energy sector, and develop a cooperation plan in the field of artificial intelligence.
At the end of the summit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev supported the reappointment of Sergey Lebedev as CIS Secretary-General and congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on assuming the chairmanship of the organization (source: UPL.uz).
