
The first Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Colonel General Rustam Ahmedov, has passed away. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Ministry of Defense provided official information about this. The deceased was born on November 10, 1943, in the Bag‘dod district of Fergana region.
He graduated from the Tashkent Higher Tank Command School in 1965 and the Armored Tank Forces Military Academy in 1985. Rustam Ahmedov began his service career in 1966 as a tank platoon commander and later rose to senior command positions.
From 1991 to 1992, he served as the Minister of Defense Affairs and Commander of the National Guard, and from 1992 to 1997, he held the position of Minister of Defense of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Additionally, he served as the Minister of Emergency Situations from 1997 to 1998.
He retired in 1998 but continued his work as an advisor to the Minister of Defense from 2018 to 2020. Rustam Ahmedov was awarded numerous honors and orders for his services.
