On October 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the extensive reconstruction works carried out on Shota Rustaveli Street located in the Yakkasaray district of Tashkent city. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The head of state personally assessed the updated infrastructure on this street by traveling by bus together with representatives of state and public organizations. He communicated with passengers and listened to their opinions.
Tashkent has been rapidly developing in recent years, with a sharp increase in population. This creates the necessity to improve the city’s transport system in accordance with modern requirements.
According to President Mirziyoyev, smooth roads and convenient public transport are important factors in improving the quality of life for the population. Shota Rustaveli Street is one of the main roads connecting several districts in the capital, and approximately seven kilometers from Mirobod Street to Choshtepa Street have been fully reconstructed.
The street now has a modern appearance and the road has been divided into ten lanes. Six of these are for cars, and two are designated as separate lanes for buses.
The remaining two lanes are intended for car parking. For the first time in Tashkent, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system was introduced.
This system serves to move public transport quickly and safely. As a result, the passenger flow increased from 2,500 to 6,000 people per hour.
Vehicle traffic along the road has also nearly doubled, allowing up to 40,000 cars to move daily. The total project cost amounts to 19.2 million dollars.
To enhance road safety, 463 “smart” traffic lights and 21 new bus stops were installed. Traffic control is carried out automatically using an intelligent transport system.
Additionally, bicycle lanes, green areas, irrigation, and drainage systems were established on the street. This not only creates convenience for movement but also contributes to improving the ecological environment.
During the visit, President Mirziyoyev discussed projects to expand new bus routes, build transport hubs around the city, and strengthen connections with New Tashkent. He said: “If we had not built the metro and brought in new buses, today transport movement in Tashkent would have become a problem.
Therefore, we will continue to create convenience for people.” The head of state gave clear instructions to officials to develop public transport, reduce congestion, and bring the capital’s infrastructure to a new level. Source: Presidential Press Service.
