Due to the holding of a prestigious global event in Samarkand — the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference — the city’s access roads will be temporarily closed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, from October 30 to November 14, 2025, detour routes will be organized for vehicles transiting through the Samarkand region. Therefore, access to the city center will be temporarily restricted during this period.
To facilitate traffic and provide convenience for drivers, special flyers have been prepared, through which all information about the detour routes can be accessed via a QR code using a mobile application. The Ministry of Internal Affairs appeals to citizens to postpone their visits to Samarkand to other dates if possible.
These measures are being implemented to ensure the safe and successful conduct of the major international event. UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations focusing on education, science, and culture. During the session, pressing issues such as cultural heritage preservation, artificial intelligence ethics, climate change, sustainable development, and the role of women in science will be discussed.
The conference will be held at the Silk Road Samarkand tourism complex and marks the first time since 1985 that a session is held outside the organization's headquarters in Paris. During the event, Samarkand will be in the global spotlight.
Authorities are taking necessary measures to strengthen security and transport control in the city. This information has been published on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (zamin.uz).
