National Geographic has recognized the city of Khiva as one of the best travel destinations for 2026. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
National Geographic, one of the most prestigious publications in the world, annually announces a list of inspiring and interesting destinations for travelers. Alongside many cities in Asia, Europe, and the Americas, the ancient city of Khiva in Uzbekistan has also secured its place on this list.
According to the publication’s editors and researchers, while Samarkand and Bukhara attract wide attention from global tourists, Khiva stands out with its peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, giving the impression that time has stopped here. The article states that Khiva makes visitors feel as if they are conversing with the past.
Additionally, a high-speed train from Tashkent to Khiva is planned to be launched soon, which will significantly reduce travel time. The restored palaces, mosques, and minarets of Khiva, as well as the Ichan Kala fortress, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, were also acknowledged.
National Geographic recommended that travelers get closely acquainted with the local culture by attending traditional festivals such as the Lazgi dance, melon festival, and warrior games. According to the magazine’s experts, these traditions are what make Khiva a living museum city in the modern world.
Furthermore, among other popular travel destinations recommended for 2026 are Quebec Province in Canada, Beijing in China, the Dominican Islands, Rabat in Morocco, Hull in the United Kingdom, Badlands National Park in the USA, Manila in the Philippines, the Black Sea coasts of Turkey, Akagera National Park in Rwanda, and Yamagata Prefecture in Japan. Khiva’s inclusion in this prestigious list not only highlights the growth of Uzbekistan’s tourism potential but also reflects the increasing international attention to the country’s culture and history.
