The criminal liability system for minors in Uzbekistan has been further softened. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The changes were outlined in the law “On further liberalization of criminal liability for minors,” adopted on October 23, 2023. From now on, individuals who committed a crime before turning 18 and have fully served their sentence will not be considered convicted.
This provision aims to avoid negatively impacting the future lives of adolescents and to assist their reintegration into society. However, these rules do not apply to those who committed serious and especially serious crimes or who reoffended after serving their sentence.
Additionally, the minimum term for restriction or deprivation of liberty for minors has been reduced from six months to one month. This law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan on July 4, 2023, and approved by the Senate on August 1, 2025.
According to experts, these changes serve to reintegrate juveniles who have served their sentences back into society and provide them with a second chance. Source: Zamin.uz
