The number of births and marriages in Uzbekistan has been decreasing in recent years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the data from the Statistics Committee, as of October 1, 2025, the country's population reached 38 million 69 thousand people. This figure increased by 1.9 percent compared to the previous year.
However, the birth rate is declining. In the period from January to September 2025, 664.6 thousand children were born, which is approximately 30 thousand less than the same period last year.
The number of marriages is also decreasing. In the past nine months of the current year, 177 thousand marriages were registered, which is the lowest figure in the last 15 years.
For comparison, in 2021, 206.8 thousand, in 2022, 197 thousand, and in 2023, 184.5 thousand marriages were registered. 19.4 million of the population live in cities, while 18.7 million reside in rural areas.
The largest populations live in the Samarkand and Fergana regions, while the smallest population is located in the Syrdarya region. Officials emphasize that the decrease in births and marriages may negatively affect the population growth rate.
Social and economic factors are considered the main reasons for this situation. Source of information: Statistics Committee.
