
The National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan has announced a new ranking of the population by region in the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the data, the region with the largest population in Uzbekistan is Samarkand region. More than 4.3 million people live in this area.
The second place is occupied by Fergana region, where the population amounts to 4.2 million people. The third position is held by Kashkadarya region, with nearly 3.7 million residents.
The top five by population are completed by Andijan region (3.5 million people) and the city of Tashkent (more than 3.1 million inhabitants). Additionally, Namangan and Tashkent regions each have populations around 3.1 million, ranking just after the top five.
The regions with the smallest populations are Sirdaryo region (942 thousand people) and Navoi region (1.1 million people), which have the lowest figures. Among other regions, it is noted that the population in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Bukhara, and Khorezm regions is approximately around 2 million.
According to experts, the population growth is increasing the demand for urban infrastructure development, creation of new jobs, and social services.
