Comprehensive reforms are being implemented in the system of combating drug addiction and drug-related crimes in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The recently approved national strategy for 2024–2028 marks a new stage in this field. Its main goal is to protect the health of the population, especially the youth, preserve the national gene pool, and strengthen a healthy lifestyle.
Within the framework of this strategy, measures to combat drug crimes will be significantly intensified. In particular, penalties of up to twenty years imprisonment have been established for crimes related to organizing drug businesses, promoting them via the internet, or setting up drug laboratories.
These measures aim not only to punish crime but also to strike at its roots. Additionally, drug crimes committed against minors are considered an aggravating circumstance.
This further strengthens the penalties for such crimes. Responsibility for distributing or circulating narcotic substances among students in educational institutions will be doubled.
The national strategy also envisages limiting the practice of early conditional release for persons convicted of drug crimes. This will enhance the sense of accountability among offenders.
Moreover, strict control will be established over chemical substances—precursors—used in the production of narcotic drugs. Their list will be expanded, and a precise reporting system will be introduced for each substance.
According to experts, these measures will not only reduce crime but also contribute to ensuring a healthy future for the population. In recent years, new forms of drug crimes, particularly distribution via the internet, have been observed.
Therefore, the state is focusing on applying modern and systematic approaches. The new strategy is based on international experience and aims to create a strong legal foundation against crime.
It reflects not only punitive measures but also efforts to strengthen prevention and promote a healthy lifestyle. These steps are of great importance in raising a healthy generation and protecting society from vices in the country.
