Ecological requirements in the construction sector in Uzbekistan will be strengthened. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
From now on, large construction sites will be required to be equipped with background monitoring stations and online surveillance cameras. This was announced by Aziz Abduhakimov, Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, during a dialogue with journalists and ecologists on November 22.
According to the decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on November 18, new ecological requirements aligned with international standards will be introduced at construction sites. Before construction begins, each organization will be obliged to install monitoring stations and permanent surveillance cameras.
These requirements will be implemented gradually. Starting from January 1, 2026, the new rules will be mandatory for sites larger than 2000 square meters; from 2027, for areas exceeding 1000 square meters; and from 2028, for objects larger than 500 square meters.
Additionally, from 2026, the construction of buildings with less than 30 percent green area, taller than 12 meters, or with a total area exceeding 500 square meters will be prohibited. Furthermore, by May 1, 2026, relevant ministries and agencies will conduct inspections of all large sites.
These inspections will require that 25 percent of the land area be designated as green zones, that there are water sprinklers and washing pools for vehicles, and that construction materials are stored indoors. Aziz Abduhakimov emphasized that these reforms aim to restore the balance between economic interests and ecological sustainability.
According to him, placing ecology at the center of decision-making is a strategic task for the country.
