The city of Samarkand is territorially expanding and further developing. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the President's press service, a total of 17.5 thousand hectares of land from the districts of Oqdaryo, Payariq, Pastdarg‘om, Toyloq, and Samarkand will be added to the city. As a result of this change, the city's population is expected to increase from 604 thousand to 882 thousand people.
To improve the city's infrastructure, the construction of more than 700 multi-story buildings is planned in three large residential areas — "Shirin," "Temiryo‘l orti," and "Qorasuv-2." These homes will provide modern living conditions for over 300 thousand residents.
In the new areas, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, higher education institutions, shopping and business centers, hotels, and recreational facilities are planned to be established. Additionally, the relocation of 49 regional organizations to the "Shirin" residential area will be carried out next year.
By the end of the year, a 577-meter-long bridge over the "Qoradaryo" river will be put into operation. This will facilitate connecting the new residential area with the city center.
Furthermore, in cooperation with Spanish investors, the complete renovation of the sewage system in the three residential areas will be carried out. To limit heavy vehicle traffic, the construction of four logistics centers along the highway is also planned.
This expansion of Samarkand is considered an important step towards transforming the ancient city into a more modern, comfortable, and opportunity-rich metropolis.
