The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, participated in and delivered a speech at a solemn ceremony dedicated to the launch of new facilities and major projects in the energy sector. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
In his speech, the head of state emphasized the rapid growth of the economy and population in the country and noted the necessity to modernize the energy system according to current requirements and to fundamentally reform it. According to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the energy sector reforms are aimed at two main goals: first – to provide all regions and sectors of the country with reliable and uninterrupted energy supply, and second – to implement this process using environmentally clean and renewable energy sources.
Furthermore, the head of state highlighted that nearly 35 billion dollars of foreign investment have been attracted to the energy sector in recent years. With these funds, new energy facilities with a capacity of 9 thousand megawatts have been launched.
As a result, the volume of electricity production in the country increased from 60 billion kilowatt-hours in 2017 to 85 billion kilowatt-hours in 2023. The President particularly emphasized that the development of renewable energy sources is a priority direction.
It is reported that in recent years, solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of almost 5 thousand megawatts, as well as hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 400 megawatts, have been commissioned. By the end of the year, it is planned to increase the total share of "green" energy in the country to 30 percent.
During his speech, the head of state also announced future plans to create new energy capacities, implement joint projects with foreign partners, and increase the share of "green" technologies.
