A large batch of illegal tobacco products was detected by customs officers in Tashkent city. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During a special operation conducted in the Sergeli district, nearly 44 thousand boxes of cigarettes without excise stamps were found. This was reported by podrobno.uz.
During the operation, a total of 43.9 thousand boxes of five types of cigarettes were seized from the cargo compartment of a Labo model vehicle. These products were confiscated due to the absence of excise stamps and relevant documents.
This operation was carried out by the staff of the "Tashkent-Aero" customs complex in cooperation with the State Security Service and other agencies. The seized tobacco products were documented as material evidence.
Currently, an investigation into this case is ongoing. It was also reported that the procedure for destroying illegal cigarettes in Uzbekistan has been updated.
From now on, counterfeit products will not be burned but will be destroyed using a special grinding method. This approach is one of the measures aimed at reducing environmental damage.
