Today, January 24, a regional center of the World Aquatics federation for water sports was opened in the Olympic Village in Tashkent. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The event was held within the framework of the federation's executive committee meeting and the visit of a delegation led by World Aquatics President and Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husain Al-Musallam. This was reported by podrobno.uz.
At the opening ceremony, World Aquatics executive committee member Shahnoza Mirziyoyeva, Uzbekistan's Minister of Sports Adham Ikramov, President of the Uzbekistan Swimming Federation Qudratilla Rafikov, U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Global Partnerships Paolo Zampolli, and President of the Asian Paralympic Committee Majid Rashid participated. The new water sports complex where the center is located was built according to Olympic standards and includes a 50×25 meter swimming pool, a 20×25 meter diving pool, training halls, and modern medical rehabilitation departments.
Guests at the event highly praised the infrastructure and emphasized that the complex is ready to host competitions at the level of world championships. This center creates new opportunities for the development of water sports in Uzbekistan.
In particular, one of the stages of the "Silk Road" World Cup in swimming is planned to be held in Tashkent in October 2026. The center will serve as a modern training base not only for local athletes but also for swimmers throughout the region.
Additionally, programs for training international-level referees and coaches will be established. The complex's activities will not be limited to professional sports only.
Special programs for children and teenagers, as well as initiatives aimed at popularizing swimming among the population, will also be implemented here. Husain Al-Musallam noted that the capabilities of the Olympic Village have made a strong impression on international commissions and announced plans to organize major continental competitions here in the future.
