Bus stops in Tashkent will have surrounding trading points removed

Trade points around bus stops in Tashkent city will be removed. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The city administration made this decision based on international experience. According to the modern bus stop concept, there should be no trade facilities within the bus stop area, as passengers need to wait for transport freely and safely, platforms should be spacious, there should be the possibility to expand them during heavy congestion, and an inclusive environment must be created.
A comprehensive survey of the public transport infrastructure in the capital was conducted. In the first phase, a distance of 100 km was covered, and more than 360 bus stops and 190 large and small intersections were inspected.
According to the audit results, 110 trade facilities were found at the bus stop locations. Of these, 61 could not provide documents confirming ownership or the right to manage the bus stop complex area.
Now, their activities will be legally evaluated, and appropriate measures will be taken. Based on the city administration's decision, all bus stops are planned to be renovated.
For entrepreneurs who have the necessary permits, a mechanism is also envisaged to allocate other locations and provide compensation for relocating trade points. Bus stops are expected to become convenient and safe spaces for genuine public transport.
