Bus stops in Tashkent were awarded to private entrepreneurs at an auction.

The Tashkent City Hall is implementing extensive reforms aimed at developing the public transport system and adapting it to modern requirements. Zamin.uz reported on this matter.
According to city hall data, 460 bus stops in Tashkent have been leased to private entrepreneurs through an auction. Deputy Mayor Abdurahmon Bakhtiyev announced at a press conference held on March 12 that the stops were awarded for a six-year term under this project.
The concept designed to ensure effective return on investment for entrepreneurs involves grouping stops located throughout the city not individually, but in large clusters or lots. This method balances the most crowded and commercially profitable locations with areas requiring less attention.
As a result, the private sector achieves cost recovery primarily through advertising spaces and other services. Questions had arisen among many regarding the disappearance of shops at bus stops.
Furthermore, the deputy mayor emphasized that the main task for the city is not to preserve retail spaces but to reduce waiting times for public transport users. Under the previous system, passengers were often forced to wait long periods at stops filled with shops, which negatively impacted service quality.
Although the new structures are located outdoors, they will be equipped with modern designs that protect passengers from rain, snow, and intense sunlight. This change enhances not only comfort but also transforms the cityscape.
A number of strict requirements have been established for entrepreneurs who won the project. Their primary goal is to ensure passenger safety.
Therefore, all stops must be equipped with modern surveillance cameras, SOS buttons for requesting help in emergencies, and adequately functioning lighting systems. Additionally, to ensure full accessibility of the infrastructure, special tactile paths and ramps must be constructed to facilitate easy movement for citizens with disabilities and those using strollers.
By transferring maintenance and service operations to the private sector, a safer, more comfortable, and stable transit environment is being created for all residents of Tashkent. This step represents one of the important measures in advancing the city's transport system to a new level and meeting the needs of the population.
