The Gaza residents rising against HAMAS, the rejected plan to "plunder Ukraine"
Hello. Today is March 30, another Sunday. As was once said at the beginning of radio broadcasts, we are speaking from Samarkand! If you remember, in the past, there was always a radio hanging in the corner of the window at home. There weren't many channels on it either. Adults listened to our national songs on "Mash'al" radio. We would listen to the evening tales told by our beloved grandmother.
Sometimes, news would also be broadcasted on the radio. We even listened to football matches on our beloved radio. In short, a small box seemed to connect us to the world. When we grew up, we realized that this was called the need for information. A person wants to stay informed about the news in the world to not feel disconnected. This has always been the case.
In today's internet age, however, there is so much news that sorting through it is not easy. In this regard, we will help you. If you spare a few minutes, we will recall the most important events that occurred in the world during the week.
Unsuccessful negotiations
During the week, negotiations were held in Saudi Arabia with the participation of representatives from Ukraine, the USA, and Russia. However, this was not a direct negotiation between Russia and Ukraine. The negotiations were conducted in a very strange format. The Ukrainian and Russian delegations were placed in separate rooms in a hotel. The members of the US delegation conveyed their words to each other.
And in such an insincere atmosphere, naturally, nothing was agreed upon. In general, it can be said that negotiations to end the war are going very poorly. Because the Trump administration, instead of being impartial, is openly siding with Russia. Inspired by this, Russia is setting new demands.
During the week, it was reported that the Russians and Ukrainians reached an agreement not to strike energy facilities, and both sides confirmed this. However, this agreement is also very raw. Firstly, the Russians say they implemented it from March 18, while the Ukrainians say it started from March 25. On March 28, an attack was carried out on a gas station in Sudjad. Russia claimed that the Ukrainians struck with HIMARS, while Kyiv stated that they did not strike and would send the defense minister to the USA for proof if necessary. In short, negotiations are proceeding in such an absurd manner. It is difficult to achieve anything in this way...
White House officials 'dropped the ball'
The most controversial event of the past week occurred in the USA. High-ranking officials in the Trump administration opened a chat on Signal messenger to discuss strikes against the Houthis in Yemen. To make matters worse, they mistakenly added Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor of The Atlantic magazine, to the chat. The officials responsible for the entire American security did not even notice that a journalist was in the group. Meanwhile, the journalist freely took screenshots of all the conversations.
In the chat, the Pentagon chief even wrote down specific information about the timing of the strikes and when the planes would take off. The director of the MRB confirmed that this information was written in the chat.
Officials who were in the chat were questioned in the US Senate. There were calls for an investigation in Congress regarding the situation and for the full disclosure of the conversations. The US intelligence agency stated that an investigation had begun. However, Donald Trump's officials casually accepted that they discussed classified information on a messenger used by everyone. They said they would not fire Mike Walls, who added the journalist to the chat.
Forest fires in Korea
South Korea witnessed the largest forest fires in the country's history. The fire, which started in the Sancheon district, quickly spread to surrounding districts. So far, it is reported that 30 people have died. Thousands of people have been evacuated. A total of 48,000 hectares of forest have burned down. This is roughly equivalent to the area of Seoul. Firefighters and military personnel have been extinguishing the fire for several days. However, it was reported that the fires reignited over the weekend.
Earthquake in Myanmar
On Friday, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck Myanmar. Tremors were felt in China and Thailand as well. Many buildings have been destroyed. According to the latest information, the number of casualties has exceeded 1,600. The epicenter was near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km. Roads in the city have cracked, many buildings have collapsed, and the country has suffered significant damage. The Myanmar government has called on the international community for assistance. Several countries have begun to provide aid. In particular, the European Union allocated 2.5 million euros in emergency aid. Thailand also suffered significant losses.
Putin proposed 'external governance' in Ukraine
Against the backdrop of the Trump administration openly taking a position favorable to Russia in the war negotiations, Vladimir Putin is making new proposals. Vladimir Vladimirovich once again stated that "there is no legitimate government in Ukraine" and proposed to introduce temporary international governance in Kyiv with the participation of the UN, the USA, European countries, and "friends of Russia." According to him, this governance would organize elections in Ukraine. During a meeting with the crew members of a nuclear submarine in Murmansk, Putin mentioned that such governance had existed in East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and partially in Yugoslavia.
This is not all; Putin also mentioned the possibility of involving other countries, particularly BRICS members, and pay attention, North Korea, as mediators in the negotiations. In other words, the Russian president wants to involve North Korea, whose soldiers are fighting against Ukraine, in the negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. Quite an impressive proposal, isn't it?
Protests in Gaza and Israel
The war between HAMAS and Israel, which began in October 2023, has drained everyone's spirits. During the week, protests were held on both sides. As you know, Israel stated that for peace to be restored, HAMAS must be completely disarmed. It is quite surprising that while Israel is scattering the ashes of Gaza into the sky, HAMAS fighters are still armed. Netanyahu's disruption of peace led to HAMAS halting the release of prisoners. This did not sit well with the Israelis, and they protested against the Netanyahu government again. Because the Israelis were demanding the return of all prisoners.
Since the beginning of the war, protests in Israel have not been news. However, this week, it was unexpected that the people of Gaza protested against HAMAS. Hundreds of Gazans demanded that HAMAS leave. Some shouted "HAMAS out." "We do not want to die for some party or foreign country. Enough people have died," said the Gazans.
For your information, HAMAS established control over Gaza as a political party in 2007. After winning the election, HAMAS expelled its political rivals from Gaza.
The USA wants to take full control of Ukraine
On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went to Washington to sign an agreement on mineral resources. After the famous scandal with Trump and Vens, the agreement was not signed. If you noticed, they did not even mention this agreement, even though Trump was acting as if he would sign the deal and that we would be on your side in the negotiations.
It has become clear that after Zelensky raised a scandal in the White House without signing the agreement, the USA completely changed the terms of the deal. Zelensky was told that the USA would only take a share of the trade in unique metals in Ukraine in exchange for military assistance. However, in the new agreement, it is noted that the Trump administration wants to establish control over all resources, oil and gas, as well as roads, ports, and transit gas pipelines in Ukraine.
This agreement has caused significant anger in Ukraine. Zelensky expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the USA but stated that he would not recognize it as state debt. Ukrainian officials referred to the new agreement as "the plunder of the country," and Zelensky said he would not sign it clearly. "It is as if Ukraine is at war with the USA, has lost, and is now being asked to pay reparations," explained one Ukrainian official regarding the new agreement.
That's all for now. Today is a holiday, so we tried to prepare this week's digest a bit shorter. See you next Sunday with the weekly digest project.
