Jalalabad city is named Manas
The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, signed the law "On renaming the city of Jalalabad to Manas." This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The official statement was made by the press service of the head of state. This law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 10, 2025.

Its main purpose is to strengthen national ideology, develop the people's memory and cultural heritage. Additionally, it is planned to give the city of Jalalabad the name of Manas, the great hero of the Kyrgyz people who defended his nation from various invasions.

The law will come into force ten days after its official publication, and the city will officially be called by its new name – Manas. This change holds significant historical and cultural importance for the city's residents and local administration.

The founding date of the city of Jalalabad corresponds to October 1877. The total area of the city is 64.6 square kilometers, and more than 184 thousand people live here.

Approximately 30 percent of them are Uzbeks, and the city's population consists of various nationalities and ethnic groups. According to local scholars and historians, renaming the city to Manas will not only preserve historical heritage but also serve to further develop local cultural life and strengthen respect for the culture of the Kyrgyz people in the future.

At the same time, this decision has evoked a positive response among the city's residents, as they appreciate the attention given to their historical and national values. The new name will enhance the city's cultural prestige and further develop its tourism potential.
