The Portuguese government has officially announced its recognition of the State of Palestine. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made following the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel expressed his views on this matter during a statement to journalists at the UN headquarters.
According to the minister, recognizing Palestine is one of the important and consistent directions in Portugal's foreign policy. He described this decision as the main path leading to a just and lasting peace, supporting the two-state solution.
Additionally, the Portuguese government strongly condemns the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the forced displacement of the population, as well as the destruction of infrastructure, schools, and hospitals. Rangel emphasized that recognizing Palestine does not immediately resolve these issues but is an important step from a political perspective.
Thus, Portugal strives to contribute to establishing peace and stability in the international community.
