Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting on September 24 in New York City within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Although the meeting lasted less than an hour, it attracted the attention of the international community. According to the US State Department, Rubio reiterated President Donald Trump's calls to stop the killings and for Moscow to take necessary measures to find a sustainable solution to the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to him, Washington considers resolving the conflict through diplomatic means a priority. The Russian Foreign Ministry statement noted that the two sides exchanged views on resolving the situation in Ukraine.
Lavrov emphasized Moscow's readiness to coordinate joint actions with the US to address the root causes of the crisis. At the same time, he added that artificial schemes aimed at prolonging the current conflict are unacceptable for Russia.
It is worth noting that Sergey Lavrov and Marco Rubio also met on July 10 in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. The discussions at that time were also mainly dedicated to global agreements on Ukraine.
The latest negotiations in New York showed that the approaches of the two countries on the Ukraine issue differ sharply. Nevertheless, diplomatic dialogue remains an important tool for stopping the war.
