A new espionage scandal has emerged in Poland. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
As a result of extensive investigations conducted by the country's Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) and the Internal Security Agency (ABW), two Ukrainian citizens were detained. According to official information, these individuals were operating in the interests of foreign intelligence services.
According to ABW press secretary Jacek Dobrzynski, a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman carried out intelligence tasks. Their main duties included gathering information about Poland's military capabilities and installing special equipment to covertly monitor strategically important infrastructure.
The collected information was related to military bases and logistics systems in Poland, including data on transport routes and infrastructure used for sending military aid to Ukraine. So far, it has not been officially disclosed which country's intelligence services the suspects worked for.
However, local experts believe there is a high probability that their activities are connected to Russian intelligence. According to the ABW statement, the arrest operation took place on October 14 in the city of Katowice.
The following day, these individuals were taken to the prosecutor's office and formally charged. The court decided to detain them for three months.
This incident is not the first of its kind recently in Poland. A week ago, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the arrest of eight people suspected of preparing sabotage activities on the country's territory.
Among them was Ukrainian citizen Danilo H., who had connections with Russian intelligence.
Tusk emphasized that in recent months, Polish security services have been taking strict measures to limit Russia's sphere of influence. Dobrzynski confirmed these statements, announcing that 55 individuals have been arrested in the past few months for espionage on behalf of Russia.
The Polish government regards this situation as a serious threat to national security. Officials are developing new plans in cooperation with NATO and the European Union to strengthen cybersecurity and counterintelligence efforts.
At the same time, the fight against espionage activities on Polish territory has reached a new level. These events highlight the increasing relevance of European security issues amid ongoing tensions between Russia and the West.
