A 9-year-old Brazilian boy became a victim of cruel bullying at school in Portugal. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to Euronews, his classmates locked him in the school bathroom and severed two fingertips, causing serious injuries. According to the boy’s mother, Nivia Estevam, her son lost a lot of blood and was forced to crawl out from under the door.
The mother stated that the boy had previously faced constant violence, including kicking, choking, and hair pulling. After the incident, the boy underwent a three-hour surgery at the San-Joao hospital in Porto.
He is currently taking strong painkillers and antibiotics. It has also been noted that the boy suffered psychological trauma and cries every night recalling the incident.
The lawyers handling the case are investigating whether xenophobic factors were involved in the attack. They accuse the school of failing to ensure the boy’s safety and attempting to clean the scene before specialists could examine it.
Psychologists emphasize that cases of bullying among students in Portuguese schools have significantly increased in recent years. According to statistics, 4,620 cases of bullying were recorded in the 2020–2021 school year, while this figure rose to 7,804 in 2024–2025.
This indicates that the problem has reached a serious scale.
