The Chairwoman of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian Federation parliament, Valentina Matviyenko, has urged the country's women to start having children from the age of 18. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to her, to solve demographic problems, it is first necessary to change society's worldview. Matviyenko emphasized that it should become customary for women to have children as soon as they reach adulthood.
She stated that the concept of success needs to be reconsidered and stressed that having a large and strong family should be regarded as true success. The parliamentary speaker called on women not to postpone childbirth, reminding them of the risk of losing this opportunity later due to medical or other reasons.
The main reason for this appeal is the demographic crisis occurring in Russia. According to statistical data, the country's population is decreasing year by year.
For example, by 2045, Russia's population may shrink to 138.8 million people. Some experts predict that by 2100 this figure could drop to 74 million.
This situation poses a serious threat to the country's economy and social stability. Therefore, the Russian leadership is paying great attention to encouraging early childbirth.
President Vladimir Putin has also addressed young people, advising them not to delay having children due to education or career reasons. The government's goal is to increase birth rates, aiming to reach 1.6 by 2030 and 1.8 by 2036.
