A 19-year-old girl living in Brazil gave birth to twins, but DNA analysis revealed unexpected results. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
It turned out that each of the twins had a different father. The woman initially submitted a DNA test to a known young man to determine paternity of one of the children.
As a result, only one child was confirmed as his biological offspring. After that, the woman took a DNA test from another man and it was found that the second child belonged to a different man.
This rare biological phenomenon is called "heteropaternal superfecundation" in scientific literature. This situation occurs when a woman has intercourse with two men during her ovulation period and sperm cells from different men fertilize two egg cells.
According to statistics, this occurs in only one out of a million twin births. Currently, both children are being raised under the mother's care.
This case is being studied as a rare biogenetic phenomenon in the medical field. Additionally, it is also causing legal discussions.
Experts emphasize the extreme rarity of this case.
