The United States Department of State has approved the sale of F-16 fighter jets and related equipment to Ukraine for $310.5 million (€274.7 million). This was officially announced by the US Department of Defense's Defense Security Cooperation Agency on May 2.
According to this agreement, the fighter jets for the Ukrainian Air Force will be adapted and modernized to meet contemporary requirements. Additionally, the package includes special training for Ukrainian specialists on maintenance and operation. Spare parts, necessary equipment for ground maintenance, software, technical documentation, and other logistical support elements are also crucial parts of the deal.
The US Department of Defense emphasizes that the proposed contract aims to ensure the effective readiness of the Ukrainian Air Force and enhance its preparedness against potential military threats that may arise in the future.
The project involves leading military and technical companies such as Valiant Integrated Services, Top Aces Corporation, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Pratt and Whitney, Snap-on Inc., BAE Systems Inc., AAR Corporation, and Comsetra LLC.
The American side has stated that this military agreement "will not seriously affect the existing military-political balance in the region."
This decision has also been communicated to the US Congress. Now lawmakers will make a final decision regarding this agreement.
