Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni had planned to sell the valuable gifts she received during her official trip at an auction. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
However, this plan was canceled. The reason is that the auction house responsible for conducting the sale is under criminal investigation.
Among the items planned for sale was a necklace adorned with precious stones gifted by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This gift was presented to Meloni during her official visit to Uzbekistan in May 2025.
According to Italian law, the Prime Minister cannot keep gifts received from foreign heads of state valued over 300 euros as personal property. Such gifts are held by the state and are only put up for public sale in special cases.
According to information, the canceled auction was expected to raise approximately 800 thousand euros, with the majority of the proceeds intended for charitable purposes. However, this initiative has now been postponed indefinitely.
