Four hikers who went missing on Christmas Day in the Vardousia mountains located in Central Greece fell victim to a snowstorm. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The bodies of three men and one woman were found on Friday evening. Fire service personnel discovered the bodies in a high and difficult-to-access area near Korakas peak, at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters.
Rescuers confirmed that the group was swept away by a severe snowstorm. According to the details of the incident, the hikers had started their journey in good weather conditions.
However, due to the specific conditions of the mountainous area, the weather deteriorated sharply. After the group's scheduled meeting time had passed, a friend of the group became worried and contacted rescue services.
Rescue operations are ongoing. One body has been evacuated from the mountain with the help of a special helicopter.
Work is underway using special equipment to move the remaining three bodies to a safe area. Despite the difficult conditions, rescuers are trying to complete the process as quickly as possible.
