On January 8, a serious incident occurred at a hospital in Tomaszów Lubelski, Poland. A 38-year-old woman was brought in heavily intoxicated for childbirth.
Doctors found that the woman had 3 per mille of alcohol in her blood. For this reason, it was decided to perform a cesarean section.
After the birth, it was also found that the newborn had alcohol in their blood. The alcohol level detected was 1.62 per mille.
This amount poses a great danger to the newborn. Doctors took all necessary medical measures to save the baby's life.
Police and prosecutors have initiated an investigation regarding this case. Those responsible for endangering the newborn's life may face up to 5 years in prison.
