Snow depth reached 2.5 meters in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy
This winter is very harsh in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to the Kamchatka-Inform news agency, in December 2025, the region received 370 millimeters of precipitation. This amounts to 316 percent of the monthly norm.

In the first half of January 2026, another 163.6 millimeters of snow fell. This equals 150 percent of the monthly norm.

The snow cover on the city streets has exceeded 170 centimeters in some places, and in certain areas it has reached 2.5 meters. On social networks, local residents are even writing about snowdrifts up to 5 meters high.

Although these figures may seem extraordinary, the situation is no laughing matter. A state of emergency has been declared in the city.

The risk of avalanches remains. Municipal services have managed to remove thousands of cubic meters of snow from the streets within a day.

The local hydrometeorological center emphasized that such extreme weather conditions are very rare, noting that the last time such a situation was observed was in the 1970s. The city's transport system has also broken down.

Passenger bus services have been temporarily suspended, and people have had to be transported by special vehicles. In some areas, snow has completely covered houses, leaving people "trapped."

Cleanup operations are being carried out with the help of rescuers and military personnel. Under these conditions, service prices in the market have also risen.

For example, the cost of snow removal services for homes and cars has reportedly exceeded 80,000 rubles. Waste removal services have almost stopped because special equipment cannot access snow-covered yards.

Schools and other institutions have switched to remote operation. Unfortunately, tragic incidents have also been reported.

On January 15, two people died as a result of snow falling from roofs. Some products are in short supply in stores, and queues have formed at major retail outlets.

Authorities continue to monitor the supply of essential goods to the population. The government is conducting awareness campaigns for residents.

A volunteer group is assisting pensioners, people with disabilities, and large families. The governor has ordered the rapid clearing of main roads in the city.

On social networks, local residents are actively sharing videos reflecting life under difficult conditions. At the same time, dramatic clips created with artificial intelligence are also circulating online.

However, the real situation is severe enough to demonstrate the seriousness of the circumstances without excessive dramatization. In conclusion, the situation in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy has not yet stabilized.

Although snowfall has decreased, dangers remain. The most important thing is to follow rules, remain cautious, and help each other.

This winter will be memorable not only for the local population but also for the entire region's history.
