Child swallowed 31 magnets: Emergency surgery performed

In Kazakhstan, a one-year and nine-month-old child was in serious danger after swallowing 31 magnets. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the "Kazinform" news agency, the child was brought to a hospital in Almaty in critical condition. During examination, numerous magnets were found in the intestines.
Doctors noted that several perforations had occurred in the child's intestines and inflammation in the abdominal cavity was increasing. In this situation, time was very important, and it was decided to perform emergency surgery immediately.
Surgeons opened the abdominal cavity using the laparotomy method, removed the magnets, sutured the damaged areas, cleaned the abdominal cavity, and installed drainage. According to the doctors, the magnets attract each other inside the intestines, compressing the intestinal walls.
This leads to impaired blood circulation, tissue damage, and the formation of holes in the intestines. As a result, peritonitis can develop within a short time.
Askar Rizvanov, a surgeon at the Children's Emergency Medical Center, called on parents to be vigilant and recommended keeping magnetic toys away from children. Specialists warn that even if only one magnet is swallowed, it is necessary to seek medical attention immediately.
Swallowing multiple magnets poses a serious threat to a child's life. Therefore, parents should carefully monitor and control items at home that may be dangerous for children.
