Melting glaciers could cause ancient viruses to awaken

The rise in global temperatures and the rapid melting of permafrost in northern regions are creating new risks for humanity. Zamin.uz reported on this.

According to warnings from experts, ancient viruses that have remained under ice for a long time and remain unstudied could reawaken. It is emphasized that such a situation could potentially lead to unexpected and severe consequences on a global scale.

Nobel laureate scientist Rae Kwon Chung expressed serious concerns in an interview regarding this issue. The scientist explained that there is currently insufficient information about the biological substances and viruses beneath the glaciers.

Most of them are unknown to modern science, which could create an unexpected biological hazard. Drawing on historical examples, the expert recalled that various diseases and epidemics encountered in the past had similar causes.

However, it is highly probable that risks arising in the future could be much more serious. According to the scientist, such dangerous viruses may be primarily preserved in the northern territories of Russia, Canada, and the glaciers of Greenland.

Scientific research results indicate that as a result of glacier melting, hundreds of different viruses could potentially reactivate. Some of them could pose a serious threat to human health and the overall ecological balance.

Therefore, monitoring changes in nature and preparing for future risks remains one of the most urgent issues today.
