U.S. President Donald Trump hopes that the Russia-Ukraine war can be ended in a few weeks. He stated this during a press conference held at the White House alongside French President Emmanuel Macron announced.
“I think we can wrap this up in a few weeks. If we are smart. If we are not smart, it will continue, and we will keep losing our young, beautiful people who should not be dying. We do not want that,” Trump said.
The U.S. president also emphasized that he does not want to allow the escalation of the conflict and the start of a third world war.
“If this is not handled independently, it could lead to a third world war. There will come a time when the war will not be limited to these two countries. Other countries will be involved. And this could actually lead to a very large war — a third world war. We will not allow that,” Trump noted.
Trump also announced his intention to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky in the next two weeks to sign a deal on natural resources.
“He could come this week or next week to sign the deal, and that would be very good. I would have met with him in the Oval Office,” Trump said. According to the U.S. president, the United States and Ukraine are “very close” to reaching a “final agreement” on rare metals “and other issues.”
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated on February 22 that Donald Trump believes the war between Russia and Ukraine can be ended “this week.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated during a press conference held on the eve of the third anniversary of Russia's large-scale invasion that the war with Russia “cannot be ended this week.”
