Russian banks are refusing to accept old dollar banknotes issued before 1996. This was stated by economist Kirill Shcherbakov in an interview with the publication "Gazeta.ru".
Why have banks stopped accepting old dollars?
According to Shcherbakov, the main reason for this is related to sanctions and financial restrictions. Previously, Russian banks could send old banknotes to foreign banks and exchange them for new ones. However, such operations are now limited, making it more complicated to deal with old dollars.
Old dollars are also causing problems worldwide
Moreover, there has been an increase in cases of refusal to accept old dollars in many countries, especially in Southeast Asia, India, Indonesia, Africa, and Latin America. The reason for this situation is that old dollars are more prone to counterfeiting compared to new banknotes.
Advice from the economist
Kirill Shcherbakov recommended exchanging old dollars for new ones or purchasing euros before traveling. This is because the euro is a widely accepted currency worldwide, with no restrictions on its acceptance.
It has been confirmed that Russian banks are refusing to accept old dollars due to sanctions and currency exchange issues. Therefore, citizens need to check their currencies and take precautions before traveling abroad.
