An emergency has been declared in the state of Carolina in the USA due to widespread forest fires. Evacuation efforts are underway. This was reported by CBS News.
Situation in North Carolina
According to fire service official Jeremy Waldrop, the fire in Polk County has engulfed an area of 400 to 500 acres. Due to the rapid escalation of the fires, residents of Tryon and Saluda are being evacuated.
According to reports, approximately 1500 people live in Tryon, and about 1000 in Saluda. The cities are located about 40 miles south of Asheville County.
Situation in South Carolina
The situation in this state has also become somewhat complicated. The rescue service of Horry County reported that the forest fire has burned at least 1600 hectares of land. Governor Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency and ordered the evacuation of residents.
"We are being evacuated from our neighborhood because the wind has intensified and shifted," said local resident Jason Jauz.
On the morning of March 2, two planes, a Blackhawk helicopter, and even tractors were involved in extinguishing the fire. By the afternoon of the same day, it was announced that the situation had improved as a result of the efforts. The rescue service in the states reported that all evacuated residents have been able to return to their homes.
Terrifying fire in Los Angeles
In January 2025, a large-scale fire occurred in the western part of California, particularly on the outskirts of Los Angeles. The fires in the city spread rapidly due to strong winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, devastating thousands of acres as the fire spread to the Pacific Palisades, Eaton, Harst, Sunset, and Woodley areas.
As a result, 27 citizens lost their lives, 16 people went missing, and approximately 150,000 residents were evacuated.
