EU approves new environmental standards for the auto industry
April 2026 opened a new chapter in the history of the global auto industry. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The Euro 7 environmental standards officially approved by the European Union have brought about a real turning point in the automotive world. This decision is expected to fundamentally change not only the technical characteristics of cars but also the entire pricing policy of the market.

Below we analyze the details of this historic change in the auto industry. The newly approved Euro 7 standards differ from previous ones by their broad scope.

From now on, not only the toxic gases coming out of the engine, that is nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide, but also the microparticles released from the braking system and tires during the vehicle's movement will be subject to strict norms. This is considered a very serious step toward protecting human health and nature.

Auto manufacturers essentially have two paths ahead. The first is to adapt internal combustion engines to the new standards by introducing high-tech and very expensive systems.

The second is to sharply accelerate the transition to fully electric vehicles. Most major automakers express concern that such strict requirements will significantly increase production costs.

The most noticeable aspect of the new rules will be their impact on car prices. As production costs rise, the number of affordable, budget-segment vehicles on the market may decrease.

This means that in the near future, buying a new and high-quality car may become somewhat more expensive for the general public. It is also expected that producing budget models may become economically unprofitable for factories.

Although the decision was made by the European Union, its impact will reach the entire world, including the Uzbek auto market. International brands are forced to adapt their products to the requirements of the most prestigious market — Europe.

This will further accelerate the global spread of green technologies and electric vehicles. Environmental organizations welcome the decision, considering it an important victory for clean air and a healthy future.

What do you think — is it worth accepting higher car prices in the name of environmental protection? Do you prefer the more expensive traditional engine car or the modern electric vehicle?
