Jaguar Land Rover has completely stopped automobile production in China

The British company Jaguar Land Rover has ended its fourteen-year activity of localizing its vehicles in the Chinese market. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The automotive giant has decided to completely stop producing its models in the world's largest automobile market. This step is expected to mark a fundamental shift in the brand's global strategy.
According to the information, starting from July 2026, dealer networks will stop purchasing all models assembled within the country. This decision indicates the end of an entire era for the brand.
The last vehicles produced in China were launched on the market with significant discounts, and the process of exiting the domestic market has entered its final stage. At one of the auto shows in Beijing, the last Range Rover Evoque L model assembled at a local plant was sold.
Notably, when this model first appeared on the market in 2011, it was sold at very high prices and with long queues. After sales ended, its price dropped sharply.
This situation clearly shows how the brand's influence and demand level in the market have changed. Jaguar Land Rover was once one of the leading players in the luxury car segment in China.
For example, in 2017, the brand's annual sales had reached a record level. However, in the following years, the situation began to deteriorate.
According to experts, delays in updating the product lineup and the inability to meet consumer needs were among the main problems. In addition, it became known that the company was not ready for the rapidly developing wave of electrification in China.
While local manufacturers were offering modern electric vehicles, the British brand remained stuck with traditional technologies. As a result, the annual sales volume dropped several times, making continued production economically inefficient.
Nevertheless, the plant in Changshu city, China, will not be completely closed, but will be re-specialized. According to a new agreement between Chery and Jaguar Land Rover, the once-popular Freelander brand will be re-established as an independent electric vehicle brand.
In the new project, China's technological supply chains will be widely used. It is expected that the new Freelander models will be equipped with modern intelligent control systems.
This allows the brand to combine its rich heritage with China's advanced technologies. According to the plan, the first electric vehicle of this brand will hit the market in the second half of 2026.
Thus, instead of directly managing its plants, Jaguar Land Rover has chosen the path of forming technological alliances with local partners.
