The global scientific community has lost another great scientist. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
James Watson, an American biologist who discovered the structure of DNA and a Nobel Prize winner, died at the age of 97. This was reported by “The New York Times.”
According to information, James Watson passed away in a hospice in New York. The scientist’s son officially confirmed his father’s death.
In 1953, James Watson, in collaboration with British biophysicist Francis Crick, succeeded in identifying the double helix structure of DNA. This discovery was recognized as one of the most important breakthroughs in the history of science.
For this achievement, Watson was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962. In 1990, Watson led the “Human Genome” project, making a significant contribution to creating the map of DNA.
He left an important scientific legacy in the fields of biology and genetics throughout his life. Nevertheless, in 2019, all his honorary titles were revoked due to his controversial views on racial differences.
James Watson will remain forever in the history of science as one of the founders of modern genetics.
