According to Variety magazine, the award ceremony took place on November 16, 2025, during the Governors Awards event. While accepting the award, Tom Cruise emphasized his boundless love for the art of cinema in his speech.
He began by saying, "Making films is not my profession, it is who I am." According to the actor, cinema has the power to unite humanity, encouraging people to understand each other, appreciate differences, and recognize shared human values.
"No matter where we come from, we laugh together, get excited together, and hope together in the movie theater – that is the power of art. That is why this award means so much to me," said Cruise.
He also recalled seeing the beam of light in a dark movie theater for the first time as a child, adding that this experience changed his worldview. On this evening, honorary Oscars were also presented to representatives of other fields.
Among them, renowned choreographer Debbie Allen and set designer Wynn Thomas were also honored with this high recognition.
