A Spanish gold coin minted in 1609 was sold for 3.49 million dollars at the Numismatica Genevensis SA auction held in Geneva. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The "Reuters" news agency reported this. This 339-gram coin was produced in Segovia, Spain, during the reign of King Philip III.
The coin was minted from gold brought from the New World. This large gold coin, made in 1609 for King Philip III, was considered a symbol of royal wealth and power in its time.
According to Alain Baron, the founder of the auction house, the value of the coin could be compared to the many years of labor wages of an ordinary person at that time. This coin had been missing for several centuries.
Around the 1950s, it reached the USA, where it was purchased by a collector from New York. Later, it was sold to a Spanish buyer and then passed to an anonymous collector at another auction.
This historic coin is now recognized as one of the most valuable coins in Europe.
