Pixar abandoned social themes in a new direction

The famous Pixar animation studio has decided to radically change its creative direction. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The studio's creative director, Pete Docter, said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that the company has learned from the failures experienced in recent years. Previously, the studio focused on projects based on directors' personal experiences and psychotherapeutic themes.
However, films like "Luca," "Soul," and "Buzz Lightyear" did not achieve the expected financial results. In 2023, Pete Docter admitted in front of the team that the direction based on personal experiences was wrong.
After that, the studio changed its policy and began removing complex social themes and sensitive issues from its films. In particular, controversial aspects of characters' personal lives were edited out in projects like "Elio" and "Inside Out 2."
Experts believe that parents are not yet ready to discuss such complex topics with their children. These changes have started to yield results.
The animated film "Inside Out 2" became the highest-grossing project in 2024, earning nearly $1.7 billion. This result shows that the studio is on the right path and that audiences miss simple but high-quality and engaging stories.
Now, the Pixar team is focusing on creating quality films that truly entertain viewers and are understandable to people of all ages.
