The government of Uzbekistan has announced plans to construct a new highway. This was reported by Upl.uz.
This road will connect Tashkent to the Charvak-Chimgan recreation area. Transport Minister Ilhom Mahkamov stated on Uzbekistan 24 television that the existing road is under excessive load due to the increase in tourists and local residents, making it necessary to address this issue.
According to Mahkamov, the development of the tourism cluster in this region in recent years has attracted state and private investments. This is putting additional pressure on the infrastructure.
For this reason, the president approved the construction of the new road. The initial concept of the project was presented to the head of state on August 1.
This project is planned to be implemented on the basis of public-private partnership. Leading international and local companies will be involved in the construction tender.
The new highway will be built completely independently from the existing road, in a different direction. The issue of whether the road will be toll is not yet clarified.
This initiative is part of the country's strategy to modernize its road network. In September 2024, the participation of Onur Group in creating a toll road network in Uzbekistan was discussed.
Specifically, the reconstruction and tolling project of the 4R12 Bektemir-Chirchiq-G‘azalkent-Cho‘rbog‘ road was considered. Earlier, the chairman of the State Automobile Roads Committee, Jamshid Tursunov, emphasized the need for free alternative roads for toll roads.
It was mentioned that the existence of two free roads on the Tashkent-Bostanliq route creates conditions for the toll highway. However, the final decision is always made based on traffic density and forecasts.
The Charvak reservoir is an artificial structure formed as a result of the construction of a stone dam 168 meters high on the Chirchiq River in 1970. It is one of the largest artificial reservoirs in the region.
