On July 29, 2023, an emergency medical assistance was needed for a passenger on the Tashkent – Delhi flight. This was reported by Upl.uz.
The situation that arose on the plane was successfully resolved by a student from Tashkent State Medical University. According to airline representatives, a woman's condition sharply deteriorated during the flight.
She complained of rapid heartbeat and anxiety. Since there was no permanent medical staff on the plane, the crew requested help from the passengers.
The call for assistance was answered by Indian students studying at the international faculty of Tashkent State Medical University. Despite the limited resources available on the plane, the student identified the signs of tachycardia in the woman.
The student applied massage techniques to the carotid sinus area in the neck, stabilizing the woman's condition. Upon arrival at Delhi International Airport, the passenger was handed over to the ambulance team and later underwent a qualified medical examination.
The airline management expressed gratitude for the student's professional and prompt actions. This incident once again confirmed the high qualifications of medical education institutions in Uzbekistan.
Carotid sinus massage is one of the methods based on the vagus reflex that helps slow down the heart rate in cases of rapid heartbeat. However, performing this technique requires special knowledge and caution, as it can pose risks, especially for elderly patients.
Therefore, it is important that the massage is performed only by qualified specialists.
