<|channel>.US offered the Hungarian Prime Minister to become the Secretary General of the UN

The US administration has proposed nominating Hungary's former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. One.uz reports this.
The Wall Street Journal reported this based on its sources. The current Secretary-General António Guterres' second term ends on December 31, 2026.
Due to the veto power of the permanent members of the Security Council, candidates failed to reach an agreement in initial screenings. Therefore, the Orbán option is being considered as a compromise solution that could win.
Positions of the three great powers It has been reported that Donald Trump's administration actively supports Viktor Orbán. According to the Wall Street Journal, the US, Russia, and China are ready to jointly support this initiative.
State Department sources stated that Orbán could receive the votes of at least 10 out of the 15 members of the Security Council. The United Kingdom and France may use their veto, but these countries usually avoid such steps.
Other candidates and future prospects A number of prominent diplomats are still vying for the position of Secretary-General. Among them are UNCTAD head Rebecca Grinspan, IAEA Director Rafael Grossi, and representatives of other countries.
However, some members of the Security Council are opposing their candidacy. The involvement of Viktor Orbán could initiate one of the most complex and geopolitically significant election processes in UN history.
