An unprecedented case has been recorded in family law practice in Karakalpakstan. This was reported by Upl.uz.
A citizen living in Nukus made an alimony payment of 2.27 billion soums, which is approximately equivalent to 180 thousand dollars. This individual paid the full amount of alimony due for the child in advance, covering the next 13 years.
The monthly payment amount is approximately 14 million soums and will continue until the child turns 18. It has been reported that this amount is the largest alimony payment in the history of the country.
According to the press service of the Enforcement Bureau under the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this citizen expressed his intention to fully pay his future alimony obligations during the court proceedings. The payment amount was calculated in accordance with the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers and covers the period until the child reaches adulthood.
This case is considered unique in the Uzbek legal system, as alimony enforcement issues are closely monitored by the state. Strict measures are established in legislation against individuals who evade parental obligations.
In particular, for failure to pay alimony, administrative detention of up to 15 days or a fine of up to 20 basic calculation amounts may be imposed. Additionally, criminal liability is provided for serious alimony payers, who may be deprived of liberty for up to three years.
Since 2009, the practice of imposing a ban on leaving the country has been introduced as an effective measure against debtors. These measures are aimed at ensuring the fulfillment of parental obligations.
