The total number of those who died as a result of a powerful gas explosion in a multi-storey building located in the "Bog‘isaroy" neighborhood of Samarkand city has reached 7. This was reported in the "Millar" program on the "Milliy" television channel.
The tragic incident occurred on the night of May 8 to May 9 in one of the multi-apartment residential buildings located on Spitamen Street in the city. As a result of the powerful explosion, the iron-concrete structures of the building were destroyed, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors, as well as the basement, suffered serious damage.
Despite the fact that there was no fire during the explosion, several apartments in the building were completely destroyed due to the strong kinetic impact. Fire-rescue and emergency service personnel, who learned about the incident, quickly arrived at the disaster site and began searching for and rescuing citizens trapped under the rubble.
As previously reported, during the first phase of the rescue operations, the bodies of 6 deceased individuals were found among the rubble. Today, as a result of the special search operations conducted, the body of another person, the seventh victim, was also found and retrieved from the ruins of the apartment.
Currently, the Samarkand regional prosecutor's office and law enforcement officers are continuing the preliminary investigation and inquiry regarding this horrific incident. Relevant authorities are conducting extensive research with the participation of experts to determine the causes of the explosion.
This tragedy, which has been received with deep sorrow and distress among the local population and the city community, is being addressed by responsible agencies to identify potential causes and take necessary measures to prevent future tragedies.
