A large-scale elevator installation program for four and five-story buildings is being prepared in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Upl.uz.
There are 14,637 four-story buildings and 7,541 five-story buildings in the country. This was announced at a press conference held by the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services on July 8.
Ministry representatives spoke about plans developed based on the study of foreign experiences. According to Aziz Khalilov, head of the department, specialists are thoroughly studying international practices for installing elevators in similar buildings, and measures are currently being developed to adapt this experience to Uzbekistan.
Deputy Minister Ozoda Juraeva confirmed that the program is being prepared. She also emphasized that this initiative stems from numerous requests and proposals from the population, particularly from individuals with disabilities.
However, before installing elevators for low-rise buildings, improving the condition of existing elevators in 9 and 12-story buildings is identified as an important task. Aziz Khalilov stated that 13,798 elevators in 5,491 multi-apartment buildings have been fully registered.
As a result of inspections, it was found that 2,001 elevators have reached the end of their service life and need to be replaced urgently, while 382 elevators require repairs. For this purpose, a total of 854.6 billion soums is planned to be allocated from local budgets.
Thus, the program will initially focus on the complete replacement of old elevators. Only after that will the project for installing elevators in four and five-story buildings be implemented.
This will significantly improve the living conditions of thousands of families across the country. It is worth noting that the practice of installing elevators in old buildings is widespread in many countries.
For example, such experience is successfully applied in countries like Austria, Germany, Finland, and Estonia.
